Our trip to Panama City, Panama

The boys and I went with Jim to Panama Saturday evening. Sunday we went on two tours. One was a boat ride on the Panama Canal to Monkey Island and some neighboring little islands. We saw hollering monkeys, white-faced monkeys, sloths, and baby crocodiles. We were able to feed the white-faced monkeys some bananas. The boys really enjoyed that. Our second tour was an aerial tram tour up one of the mountains in the rainforest. It was neat seeing all of the different vegetation and the view was great going up. At the top they had a 90 foot tower that you could climb that put you over the tree canopy that gave you a great view of the canal and everything around for miles. It was a great way to spend Mother's Day. We just all missed having Kellie with us, but we know she had a great time with Mema and Pop.
On Monday Jim had a full day of classes, so the boys and I did a tour of Panama City and the Miraflores Locks. We spent four hours touring the city and the locks and museum. We were able to watch as some huge container ships went through the locks. They would go into the first section, raise the water level 27 feet, then into the next and raise it another 27 ft. The canal is like a one way street. In the morning traffic goes from the Pacific to the Atlantic and in the afternoon it goes from the Atlantic to the Pacific. You can see ships waiting out in the ocean for their turn to go through the canal. We got back in time to see Jim for a little while during lunch. We spent the afternoon at the pool.
We had to get up at 4am to leave the hotel by 5am to catch our 0730 flight to ATL. Luckily Pop had to go to Columbus today for business and he and Mema brought Kellie there to meet us instead of us having to fly in and then drive down to Blakely and back. That saved us 3-4 hours of driving. We sure appreciate them keeping Kellie for a few days. I think it was a good bonding time for the three of them and also for us and the boys. Thanks Mema and Pop!!!!
