Still...yard work!
The boys are sooooo ready for us to finish working in the yard. They don't realize that it's always a work in progress. This summer it has been one thing after the other. Everytime we get almost finished with one project we think of something else to do. Last week we decided we wanted a dry creekbed to go down the right side of the new flower bed retaining walls to catch the runoff from the big slope in our backyard. We are hoping that this will help our lower backyard not be so soggy. We rented an excavator to use Saturday to dig the trench. While at Lowes Saturday morning we also decided we wanted to put in a little pond at the bottom...since we had the excavator to dig the hole. We have to give credit to our friend Greg for coming up here and running the machine for us. We probably would have torn up the whole yard trying to dig that trench. Greg did a great job! We sweated all weekend in the yard. Kellie enjoyed helping. She got into the back of the trailer and kept filling up her bucket with rocks to put into the creekbed. Then Jim left Sunday evening for England. The boys got a day off on Monday. Alex went to White Water with the youth group from the church. I dropped him and seven friends off that morning at the church and then went by Pike to buy some water garden plants. We were told that fish like a lot of cover from hang-over plants, so the pond is surrounded by them. Later that afternoon Blake, Kellie, and I went to see "The Mummy" movie. On Tuesday it was back to work. I had to get my last full day of work out of the boys before school started back today. We finished putting all of the rocks in the creekbed and around the pond late yesterday afternoon. Now we are just waiting a week or so to see how the water does before getting a couple of goldfish to put into the pond. I think the rest of the digging and planting will wait until Jim gets home. I wouldn't want him to miss out on all of the FUN!
